Screening: Sleep Furiously + Who Killed Brown Owl Thursday 17 June
miniciné at armley mills is a community cinema project bringing innovative and thought provoking films to west leeds and re-using the bijou Edwardian film theatre of the Leeds Industrial Museum.
our events take place once a month on every third thursday, admission £4, next screening Thursday 17 June:
Who Killed Brown Owl? // Dir Christine Molloy, Joe Lawlor / 10 mins / 2004
inspired by classical paintings of village life, the film is about a sunny Sunday afternoon that goes horribly wrong.
Shot in one continuous take and part of a collaborative project with local residents and community groups, this film captures the essence of Englishness displayed in a public park.
Sleep Furiously // Dir Gideon Koppel / 94 mins / 2009
ordinary life is transformed into the sublime in this documentary that describes the current issues facing a west Wales farming community. As the population ages, the schools face closure, and the mobile library signals a resistance to move into the 21st Century, Koppel's camera stands as a silent observer and the music of Aphex Twin washes over the viewer.
filmed in and around the village of Trefeurig, where the director was raised, but there isn’t an ounce of nostalgia or sentiment here, merely a reflection of the unavoidable march of progress and the often-contradictory circularity of life.
