Roundtable: Location of Contemporary Arts
Our current exhibition Virtually Real questions the traditional representation of space, particularly in light of our current digital and virtual culture. Contemporary art has consistently explored changing notions of space, often by the very way it is located itself. Curators and art audiences are constantly being challenged to reconsider what art is, often by where it is situated.
The arena for contemporary art has long since widened beyond traditional galleries and museums into artist-run spaces, art fairs and non-traditional exhibition spaces and even outdoors. However, three-dimensional spaces have been complicated by the growing importance of time-based media, performance and installation art, as well as digital and virtual artwork.
Commentators from different areas of the art world - Louise Atkinson, Judit Bodor, Pippa Hale, John Slemensek and Andrew Warstat - will bring their views together in a roundtable followed by public discussion.
Tea/Coffee served at 5.30; the Roundtable begins at 6pm. Free, all welcome.
