IN FOCUS: Mark Burns Cassell - Potter
Part of our new Saturday talk series, join potter Mark Burns Cassell as he discusses his working practice.
Mark Burns Cassell makes wheel-thrown domestic stoneware from his studio up in Sunderland where he has recently founded MBC Ceramics. His aim, he says, "is to put quality craftsmanship on the dinner table and into the sink. To create affordable, durable, and honest stuff. Practical art, you might say." Beautiful, practical art we say.
When he's not in his studio, Mark spends much of his time sharing his enthusiasm for clay with others; running workshops and classes across the North East. Many of our regular visitors will know him from the Burton Saturday sessions that he has led here at the gallery.
Mark has not always been a potter though and his journey into this career, one that he is so obviously hugely passsionate about, is an interesting and heartwarming one.
Join us in the gallery to learn more about how Mark became a full time potter and what exactly this work entails what he is influenced by and where he sees his work progressing.
This is a free event. No Booking necessary. Just drop in.
