The Gallery at West Yorkshire Print Workshop is pround to announce our new exhibition ‘Yorkshire Art Loop’ which runs until the 28th January.

This wonderful collaborative art project ‘Yorkshire Art Loop’ features the work of 33 artists who have participated in this project that brings together the WYVAN group of artists and organisations working across West Yorkshire. More information about WYVAN can be found in the notes section below.

The project began when the Barnsley Bard Ian Mcmillan wrote a poem, just for the project. The poem was called ‘Apple Dream’, the poem was presented to a large group of artists and makers in April 2011. The 33 artists who took part formed 3 groups who then formed 3 lists. The first person on each list had the poem secretly revealed to them, they went away and made the first piece of artwork in response to the poem, this was then sent to the next person on the list. The new piece of art work each time being forward onto the next person on the list and the one they had received returned to a collection point. A sort of art Chinese whispers. Only the first person on each list got to see the poem, that is until we were sure artists had made their work and passed it on, they were then invited to make a second piece of work directly in response to the poem, which was then revealed to them.

The Art Loop project created a large collection of art work by artists and organisations within the WYVAN group, these included The Art House in Wakefield, West Yorkshire Print Workshop in Mirfield, Pop Up art space (Fabric) in Bradford, Loca in Kirklees, and East Street Arts in Leeds. These organisations are all part of WYVAN – West Yorkshire Visual Arts Network.

The gallery at WYPW is located on Huddersfield Road, Mirfield and is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 10.30am to 5.00pm and on Saturdays 10.30am to 3.00pm.

YORKSHIRE ART LOOP
"The Yorkshire Art Loop" concept was suggested by Robin Widdowson, Loca, and is based on the successes of another, similar project, "Pass-the-Parcel" which was developed and delivered through Loca with a collaborative group of established creative businesses.

WYVAN
The idea behind WYVAN (West Yorkshire Visual Arts Network) is that these organisations come together to create projects, training opportunities or to share information that will help artists in West Yorkshire with their professional development. The group includes The Art House in Wakefield, West Yorkshire Print Workshop in Mirfield, Pop Up art space (Fabric) in Bradford, Loca in Kirklees, and East Street Arts in Leeds.
