United Colours of Fauvism: Karen Babayan's Gouache Workshop
Saturday, 16 July 2011, 12-4.30pm
Inspired by the work of Carlos Nadal, Karen Babayan visual artist will discuss the 'Fauvist' approach to colour and its use in artistic and cultural expression. In this hands-on workshop participants will experiment with painting with gouache and learn about quantities of colour, and the role of contrast and harmonies within colour compositions.
Karen Babayan uses paint, print, photography and video as the means to explore her cultural history. Taking hand-me-down stories and family photographs as starting points, she attempts to create a sense of place and belonging. Colour is an important element of the communication of this work.
Free workshop, but places are limited so please book your place in advance by e-mailing Zsuzsa at libzmp@leeds.ac.uk, phone (0113) 34 32777, or online at http://fauvistcolours.eventbrite.com/.
