Collagraph printing is a very exciting way of making a print. Almost any material with texture can be collaged onto the printing plate such as paint, fabric and leaves. Carborundum is a grit which is applied to the plate to create rich tones and textures. The resulting impression is that of embossing as well as printing.

Dawn Brooks is a printmaker based at Crescent Arts in Scarborough. Her monochrome prints are stark, intimate and expressive, combining drypoint etching, collagraph and drawing processes. Drawings are a starting point for her printing plates, which are created as a painter might use a canvas, in the sense that the construction of the image is process led - instinctively reacting to marks as they are made.

£120 including materials.
