‘You Are Here” is a collection of works by Contemporary Arts students at Leeds Metropolitan University. The work spans across a range of media, from painting to performance.
The work wasn’t made to conform to a single theme but links are made between works through curation and arrangement. This is our chance to explore curating as a tool for creating ideas.
The title is derived from ideas of place, moving from our respective homes to university and to Leeds itself. Our works and this show are a reflection of us, both our styles and practices but also of the social systems that have taken place between us as people. Once placed together in a given environment our work naturally starts to form dialogues and contradictions with each other, the same way people do, we have, since coming to Leeds.
It is also an expression of our looking for our own places in the contemporary art world, contemplating where we are at now and where we could go in the future
