Dream/Play Theatre Performance Empty Dream/Play Theatre Performance

Post  Natasha Tue Apr 20, 2010 12:40 pm

I am the Marketing Manager for a third year performance at the University of Leeds trying to create as much awareness as possible for our production Dream/Play. Performing at the universities very own theatre stage@leeds from Wednesday 28th April - Saturday 1st May at 5, 7 and 9pm.

‘Anything can happen, everything is possible and probable. Time and place do not exist.’ Strindberg (1901)

Inspired by the Swedish playwright August Strindberg who wrote A Dream Play in 1903. Known as an unstageable production, we have tackled this challenge to find a way of conveying our thoughts and interpretations from the original text to produce an original performance. Strindberg, was known to be ahead of his time, and now with our input of technology, sound, movement and text, we hope we have achieved the impossible, possible.

Is there ever a moment where your dream becomes reality? Or reality becomes a dream? Dream/Play offers you an intriguing performance with the opportunity to decide where reality ends and dream begins. There are no laws, no boundaries but one’s conscience rules.

Step through the doors of stage@leeds and enter our unique performance environment inspired by Strindberg’s A Dream Play where the audience are invited to play. This design-led performance creates a multi-sensory and visually appealing theatrical environment which builds on previous work by students in the School of Performance & Cultural Industries. Dream/Play is an immersive performance where a combination of technology, image, text and movement creates a space where time and place are a distant memory.

“a unique, extraordinary experience”

“The best thing seen on stage (or around the stage…) in Leeds for a long, long time.” Leeds Student

(Audience responses to last year’s immersive performance of Pandora’s Box )
