Leeds Attitude
One of the positive things people identified at the Leeds visual Art Framework discussion event last month was the 'attitude' including..
a history of socially committed art practices
approachable
art history and identity
aspiring
collaborative ethos
critical dialogue on art is of a high standard
critical outlook and review
democratic
determination
easier to get things done on a small scale
eclectic
empowered to create / develop
energy
enthusiasm for getting things done
enthusiasm of visual arts community
for a small city there is a cross section of practice evident - high art community
friendly
good U.K. / international profile due to famous Yorkshire art illumini
huge potential for cultural growth
humbleness
independence
individual artists commitment / enthusiasm
innovative thinking
inventive and eclectic
it feels as though you can have an impact on it (if you have the energy)
lots of 'can do'
lots of energy and individuals willing to spend time and effort
lots of good will
more young artists who stay (even if because of limited other options rather than positive choice)
northern grit
our aspirations
participatory
positive supportive relationships
resourceful
room for growth
strong history of critical contemporary art movements
the energy of people
the willingness (when it happens) to readdress and think critically about the way we organise (or not) ourselves
versatile
willingness to collaborate across institutions
What do you feel there is a Leeds visual art 'attitude' and if so what do you think about it?
