Old/Past Publications and Journals

Post  andyabbott on Sun Mar 07, 2010 10:35 am

I was looking through a box of old stuff the other day and pulled out a copy of 'Artscene' from 2000 (a magazine about the arts in Yorkshire) which had articles by Rich Jevans and Vic Allen. There must have been a few more arts publications in Leeds in pre-internet explosion days. I remember Northern Exposure was pretty good. I guess you could have considered No Quarter to have covered some critical art (or indeed see it as a piece of contemporary art). Were there many others? Is there a demand for that sort of thing nowadays?

Interesting difference with a Zine is the thing had to be finished ie: where a website can be put up and then die a slow and increasingly irrelevant death, a zine (well done) is a perfect snap shot of a time.

Couple of thoughts:
- Very easy to scan and pdf old zines for people's consumption over the net
- Might be of interest to artists working now, either for inspiration or just to compare how the art scene works
- Might be possible to track down missing copies through Lvaf contacts.
- Interesting art history proj if nothining else!
