Critical network
I guess LVAF (the old version that the rest of the world is still using) is good in the sense that it gets people to events but there is no space on it to review / critique the events, or even to talk about the conversations that you had at those events...
Black Dogs have a really good internal critical debate on a regular basis but it gets to the point where you don't want that to be the only debate... not least because you get into drunken arguments with your friends.
VERY occasionally, you go to The Wrens or the Reli & there is a group of people representing DIFFERENT artists groups, institutions, disciplines, career levels & so on, & you get a really good discussion going on... but I can only remember it happening, like, 3 times in the last few years...
Light Night & Art In Unusual Space do create a bit of a network sometimes, but despite all the hype, even that can be quite limiting... it is limited to the artists who have been selected to be ivnolved, & even then they are too busy to see each other or have a proper discussion!
It would be nice to have an online space where we could post up the whole Light Night programme & allow people to discuss it, slag it off, discuss what they want to see most / least. & I guess that applies equally to a lot of the things that are posted on LVAF. On the days when there are loads of postings & three different private views in three different corners of the city, it would be nice to discuss them online in advance with people.
